Unfinished Symphony is an upcoming for-profit physical fanzine dedicated to Kaede Akamatsu from New Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony.The zine's focus will be on Kaede and her life before, during, and after the canon events of NDRV3, with an emphasis on the platonic connections she made with the other participants of the Killing Game.We will also be hosting a separate digital zine that will allow exploration into Kaede's life and friendships in the DRS/UTDP universe.The zine will be SFW (Safe for Work) with an allowance for canon-typical blood, violence, and gore. Curse words and sexual humor will also be permitted as long as they fall under this guideline as well.

This zine will contain spoilers for the entirety of NDRV3.

GUIDELINES

General Guidelines

- All contributors must be at least 16 years old by the time result emails are sent out.- The zine will be SFW (Safe for Work) with an allowance for canon-typical blood, violence, and gore. Curse words and sexual humor will also be permitted as long as they fall under this guideline as well.- This zine will be focusing on pregame, in-game, and postgame events and friendships within Kaede's life in the canonical world of NDRV3. Due to this, the zine will not be featuring alternate universes or cross-game interactions in the zine (with certain exceptions.)- Our digital zine, Overture, will allow exploration into Kaede's life and friendships in the DRS/UTDP universe. Crossgame interactions in this zine WILL be allowed.- This zine will only be exploring Kaede’s platonic relationships. Romantic content is not allowed to be explicitly depicted in any way, shape, or form.- Contributors may not publicly share any part of their works until permitted to do so. If you would like to include your piece in a portfolio, please discuss with the mod team first before doing so.- By joining the zine, you are agreeing to respect our rules, the mod team, and your fellow contributors. Any bullying or harassment will be handled appropriately.- By applying, you are making a commitment to meet all deadlines. While extensions will be permitted within reason, we ask that you do not apply unless you have the space to complete everything in a timely manner.

Cover / Page Guidelines

- Artists will be asked to provide three pieces of art that they feel best represent their work. Please provide at least one Danganronpa piece. At least one piece featuring Kaede is recommended, but not mandatory.- Please do your best to submit three completed illustrations. Additionally, we ask that at least one of the works provided has some form of background.- Applications will be judged on anatomy, shading, coloring, composition, and style. Pieces that are not fully colored or shaded for stylistic reasons, however, will not be graded down.- Applicants will be asked to provide an easily navigable portfolio where the mod team can view their work. This may take the form of a Google Drive folder, AO3 account, Carrd, Tumblr tag, Twitter media page, etc.- Please keep your application SFW. As the mod team is comprised entirely of adults, you are allowed to have NSFW on your portfolio, so long as the three pieces you choose to highlight are not.- Page artists will have the option to share pitch ideas on the application form. This is a completely optional section of the form and will only serve to let the mods know of any concepts people may have ahead of time!

Writer Guidelines

- Writers will be asked to provide three writing examples between 1 - 2.5k words that they feel best represent their writing. Please provide at least one Danganronpa piece in your application. At least one Kaede-centric fic is recommended, but not mandatory.- Applicants will be judged on grammar, sentence structure, characterization (if applicable), imagery, and their ability to tell a complete story within the word limits provided.- Writers will be allowed to present an excerpt that is within the word limit requirements, so long as the excerpt selected is understandable without reading the rest of the story and functions as its own piece.- Applicants will be asked to provide an easily navigable portfolio where the mod team can view their work. This may take the form of a Google Drive folder, AO3 account, Carrd, Tumblr tag, Twitter media page, etc.- Please keep your application SFW. As the mod team is comprised entirely of adults, you are allowed to have NSFW on your portfolio, so long as the three pieces you choose to highlight are not.- Applicants will have the option to share pitch ideas on the application form. - Merch artists will be asked to provide three pieces of art that are in the style of the merch item they would like to create that they feel best represent their work. For example, if you would like to apply to create a print or wallpaper, please include examples of full illustrations.- Examples of merch pieces you’ve done previously are appreciated but not mandatory. At least one piece featuring Kaede is recommended, but not mandatory.- Applicants will be judged on anatomy, shading, coloring, composition, and style.- Applicants will be asked to provide an easily navigable portfolio where the mod team can view their work. This may take the form of a Google Drive folder, AO3 account, Carrd, Tumblr tag, Twitter media page, etc.- Please keep your application SFW. What is a zine?

A fanzine (zine for short) is a magazine created by fans to celebrate a character, ship, or form of media. Zines can come in both physical and digital formats and typically feature a variety of both art and writing.

What is the theme of this zine?

The zine's focus will be on Kaede and her life before, during, and after the canon events of NDRV3, with an emphasis on the platonic connections she made with the other participants of the Killing Game.

Is this zine SFW (Safe for Work)?

The zine will be SFW with an allowance for canon-typical blood, violence, and gore. Curse words and sexual humor will also be permitted as long as they fall under this guideline as well.

Will this zine contain spoilers?

Yes, there will have spoilers for the entirety of NDRV3.

Are other characters allowed?

Yes, the entire cast of NDRV3 will be allowed and encouraged to be featured in the zine! Due to the theme of the zine being focused on canon events, however, characters from other Danganronpa games will not be permitted (with a few exceptions).However, crossgame interactions will be allowed and encouraged in our digital zine, Overture.

What exceptions are those?

Exceptions will be made for pieces such as a Danganronpa convention setting in a pregame piece, Tsumugi's cosplays in the final trial, or a piece set before or after NDRV3 that considers the Hope's Peak Academy flashback memories as canon.

Will ships be allowed in this zine?

This zine will only be exploring Kaede’s platonic relationships. Romantic content is not allowed to be explicitly depicted in any way, shape, or form.

Will this zine be physical or digital?

We will be offering both a physical and digital version of Unfinished Symphony, as well as physical merch.Additionally, we will also be offering a separate digital zine focusing on Kaede's life and friendships in the UTDP universe, as well as digital merch.

Is this zine for charity or for profit?

This zine will be a for-profit project.

How will contributors be compensated?

At the bare minimum, all contributors will receive a free digital copy of Unfinished Symphony and Overture. Based on sales, all contributors will receive up to the biggest bundle that profits allow. Any money left over will then be evenly distributed between contributors.

Where will the zine be shipped from?

All orders will be shipped from the United States.

Will you be shipping to the UK?

Yes! We will have an Etsy store available for UK orders.

How many contributors were accepted?

We ended up accepting a total of 58 contributors!

Will this zine have guest contributors?

Yes! We ended up inviting a total of four page artists, one merch artist, and one writer.

Can I apply for multiple roles?

Yes, you are more than welcome to apply for all positions if you'd like! However, you will only be accepted for one role so as to make room for as many creators as possible. The exception to this will be the cover artist, who may also do a page if they choose.Additionally, physical zine contributors may submit a piece for the digital zine, due to the lack of page limit.

I'd like to add/change something on my application. Can I do that?

Sure! Just fill out a new application and let us know in the comments section of your application.

I asked a question on the interest check/application and it mysteriously showed up on your Retrospring. Why is that?

For questions that you asked on your form or via our interest check, we will often send them to ourselves on Retrospring and answer them there.
